The College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences hosted the AGRO 2019 Conference and Exhibition during the University of Nairobi Research week, from 22nd to 24th October 2019.
The AGRO Conference and Exhibition was a platform for students, academicians, researchers and Practitioners in agriculture to show case their research outputs through presentations and posters, exchange ideas and network. The focus was on food security, climate matter and capacity development.
The conference theme ‘Catalyzing Sustainable Food and Nutrition Security through Research, Technology and Innovation attracted a total of 201 papers drawn from local and international institutions that partner with the University of Nairobi in research activities. The presentations provided a rich mix of actionable information covering all aspects of Agri-food systems from input supply to markets and consumption which can be applied to address some of the Agri-food systems challenges and contribute significantly to address food and Nutrition Security in Kenya and beyond.
Chief guest Prof. Hamadi Iddi Boga Principal Secretary, State Department for Crop Development and Agricultural Research in his opening speech said that the economy is determined by agriculture and we all have the responsibility of transforming agriculture through knowledge dissemination, capacity building and mobilization of private sector resources to invest in Agriculture.
During the conference, the participants had an opportunity to engage in healthy discussions on Agri-food system transformation, Agri- prenuership and climate matter towards the realization of the Big 4 Agenda: Food Security.
